Cliffe VC Primary School PTChairperson’s Report for the AGM

         Thursday 4th October 2018

The PTA have had a very successful year! I would like to start by thanking the PTA committee, the volunteers, parents, staff and children for their support and hard work which has led to us being able to contribute so much to the school this year!

This year, we organised fewer events than a normal year, but the Christmas Market took place successfully again, as well as the Cliffe Lego Fest, sports day refreshments and the Leaver’s disco being our main fundraisers. We attempted to organise a Mother’s Day event, but we couldn’t secure a good time to hold the session in school, so it didn’t go ahead. This year has been a perfect example that we need more hands on deck, to make sure that smaller events can go ahead. We have discussed that a PTA events calendar needs to be set for the whole school year, so there are no last minute surprises.

Cliffe Christmas Market was our biggest success this year, as we managed to make it bigger and better than the previous year. The stall route on the village green was extended to create a circuit hence avoiding the hustle and bustle of the year before. We invited almost double the amount of stalls than last year and even positioned some in the institute, inviting several food outlets to give visitors more choice. This year, we need to streamline the stall booking procedure, so stallholders are only booking through email. Apart from that, it was a fun evening and we already have stallholders enquiring about booking for Cliffe Christmas Market 2018!

Cliffe Lego Fest 2018 surprised us, as we had the issue of it clashing with the World Cup to contend with. We still managed to raise a final total of £2297, even with a quiet final hour! It was a learning curve that showed us we really need to check and double check any local/ national events that may clash with our summer funday in future years!

Facebook has continued to be an amazing marketing source, and one that we need to continue to utilise in the advertising of our events.

We were very proud to announce our final total for the end of the school year 2017-18 to the children and parents. £5600 was a great achievement. We have been able to buy the item at the top of School’s wish list, the outdoor stage, which is constantly in use during the school day. We also  contributed to the Christmas pantomime who visited the school last December and we bought Christmas crackers for all the children to have with their school Christmas dinner.

We are looking forward to hearing what our goals are for this school year 2018-19 and I am sure that we will all come together and succeed again! We would like to thank Mrs Hay for her support and guidance, and to all the staff in school for giving us their time, effort, support and access to school and its resources this year. Here’s to a successful 2018-19!

I would like to thank Becky Foster, for her hard work in the role as PTA Treasurer this year and also Liv Bucko, in her role as PTA secretary. Together, we have made a strong team in facilitating the events.

Finally, as I continued my role as PTA chairperson for an extra year last year, I am stepping down from the role this year. After initially being quite apprehensive about taking the role on, almost 3 years ago, I can honestly say that I have really enjoyed the experience. It has pushed me to learn new skills like chairing meetings and organising groups of volunteers. It has also really helped to increase my confidence, so it has been a fun journey! I will still remain on the pta as a committee member and, of course, will pass on all of my contacts, checklists and information to the new chair.

Here’s to a successful 2018-2019!
