My name is Carole Middleton and many of you will remember me as interim Head of the school from January to April in 2014.  Since April 2014 I have been continuing to support the school as a consultant and I am now delighted to be Chair of Governors. I retired from Monk Fryston CE Primary School in 2013 where I had been Head teacher for 16 years. I will be bringing knowledge of Cliffe School and a lot of experience to this role as Chair.

I was born and raised in The Yorkshire Dales and have lived in Yorkshire all my life (apart from three years at University in Liverpool and one year in Vancouver Canada).  I trained to teach in 1979 and had a wonderful 34 year career in education. I taught in schools in Leeds, Bradford and Baildon, before becoming a Head teacher of a seven class North Yorkshire village school for 17 years. I retired in July 2013. I have many interests which keep me busy including walking, cycling, swimming, travelling and singing. I am a member of The Rotary Club of York which involves me in charitable activities and community projects. I have been supporting an orphanage and school in Livingstone Zambia since 2005 and had the opportunity to visit in February 2015 to share my expertise. I care passionately about education and have many skills to offer fellow governors, staff and pupils at Cliffe VC School.

Originally from Cliffe I moved back here 11 years ago to start a family, two of which are currently at Cliffe school with my third due to start in two years. I studied Environmental Science at Leicester graduating in 1998 when I took a diversion from a science based career to that of professional procurement and contract management. I am now a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and work for the University of York with responsibility for estate maintenance and capital procurement. I have experience of working for local government and my wife Charlotte is a teacher of 15 years experience, which gives me an understanding of the political and practical side of teaching.

In my spare time I enjoy anything in the fresh air including cycling, hiking, tending my allotment, relaxing in beer gardens, and playing with my children.

I have a vested interest in the success of the school and I hope that my experience and knowledge of the teaching environment helps me to contribute to the schools ongoing success.

Governor at Parkside Primary School, Goole

I began teaching in January 1986 in Larbert Village Primary School, Scotland.

My husband and I moved to Yorkshire in December of that year and I taught in St Mary’s Primary Selby till December 1999 moving on as Deputy Headteacher in Barlby Bridge Community Primary in January 2000.

As a Class teacher I took on the role of Subject Leader in a variety of the curriculum areas throughout the schools. I have been a SENCO for over 20 years and am very experienced in teaching pupils with Special Educational needs, supporting other schools in the area.

I was first a Governor at St Mary’s school and have since been a Governor at each subsequent school.

I was asked by the Local Educational Authority to become Acting Headteacher of Cliffe VC Primary School in April 2012 and was then very pleased to be appointed to the post, full time, in May 2012.

I have been a Trustee on the Mary Waud Foundation for eight years.  I have now been asked to represent them as a School Governor.

My Father was Headmaster at Cliffe VC Primary School for many years and both my sons attended the School.

I have now retired, having been employed in the financial sector all my working life.  As I am on the finance committee I hope this experience will be of help when needed.
